Match winner Marozsan: "Washing, family time and then off to Canada"

First it’s time to re-charge the batteries, then onto the World Cup. The anticipation ahead of the title hunt in Canada was not only clear to see on the face of match winner Dzsenifer Marozsan. “We can travel to Canada now with a good feeling”, she said following the successful friendly match, her eyes glistening and perhaps still glowing from the recent Champions League triumph with 1. FFC Frankfurt.

With a small training plan packed away for homework, Marozsan and Co. travelled home the day after the 3-1 win against Switzerland to rest for a few days before the flight to Ottawa on Sunday afternoon. “I’m going to do all my washing, pack my bags and spend time with my family and dog”, explained Marozsan “so I can soak up some positive energy.”

Manager Silvia Neid is also hoping to clear her mind somewhat, before they set off, just a week before the opening match against the Ivory Coast on 7th June (22:00 CEST. “I will relax for a little while”, said Neid, grinning mischievously. “I definitely need to go to the hairdressers as well.” As in an ideal world, she will be hoping to not return to Germany for at least five weeks – after the World Cup final on 5th July.

"Maybe the manager wanted to spur me on a little bit"

After being forced to watch her team struggle from the bench during the first half, the two-time goal scorer Marozsan did her best to prove a point: “It may be that the manager wanted to spur me on a little bit”, said the 23 year old attacker about her unfamiliar role on the bench, “but I gave the best possible response.”

The Frankfurt player also convinced the manager of her “absolute favourite position” in a central attacking role. After a “dreadful first” and “positive second half”, Neid was especially pleased the breath of quality in her squad. “At a tournament you need to call on every bodies’ quality”, emphasised the 51 year old.
