Marie Müller: "We want to win against Italy"

Germany U17 international Marie Müller is currently involved in the European Championship (4th to 16th May) with her side, and in the opening match against Spain they earned a 2-2 draw.

In an interview with DFB.de, the 15-year-old midfielder looks ahead to the upcoming match against Italy (7th May) and the atmosphere in the side.

DFB.de: Marie, your side drew 2-2 against defending champions Spain in the opening group match. How pleased are you with the result?

Marie

Müller: We are pleased with the result generally. It wasn’t an easy match, Spain are very good. We put in a good team performance.

DFB.de: What is the atmosphere like in the team?

Müller: It’s great. Everyone is very focused, and we are enjoying our time together.

DFB.de: What is your average day-to-day schedule in tournaments like these?

Müller: We always have a final training session on the day before the game, sometimes two. We then analyse our opponents in the evenings, and have a short fitness session on the morning of the match. After breakfast we tend to have a small discussion as a team, and then we head to the stadium.

DFB.de: How did you become a footballer?

Müller: I have been playing for ages, since I was about three or four years old. My father used to play football and he signed me up to a club right next to my nursery. I enjoyed training so much that I didn’t want to stop.

DFB.de: Tomorrow you face Italy in your second match. What are you hoping from the match?

Müller: We want to win of course, but we know that it won’t be an easy match against Italy.

DFB.de: What is your aim for the tournament?

Müller: First and foremost we want to stay in the tournament for as long as possible. You also have to remember that the top three teams qualify automatically for the World Cup in Jordan. We want to take the next step in our development. For the time being we are concentrated on Italy.
