Marco Reus: "We kept our heads"

After the game come the questions. Reporters ask, and players answer. What did the players have to say about their performance? DFB compile these exchanges every Monday. Today’s article features Marco Reus, Manuel Neuer and Ron-Robert Zieler.

FC Ingolstadt vs. Borussia Dortmund 0-4

Marco Reus: We analysed them well before the game, and knew their weaknesses. We dominated the first 30 minutes of the game, then lost our way a bit for 15 minutes. We improved then, and our passing became a lot more fluid. We had big chances in the first half, and should really have taken the lead earlier. We kept our heads though, and were ultimately rewarded.

Matthias Ginter: When the ball came to me, the defender was already there so I probably would have hit him had I decided to shoot immediately. The angle was a bit tight, so I switched it onto my left foot and put it in the far corner. It feels very good to have won twice in the Bundesliga. We showed from the first minute that we wanted to win. Even in the first half we had more than enough chances to take the lead. We were tight at the back too, and didn’t give them anything. Other than two shots, Ingolstadt didn’t have any real chances.

Julian Weigl: We can back to Dortmund with three points in the bag – an excellent team performance.

1899 Hoffenheim vs. Bayern München 1:2

Manuel Neuer: Conceding an early goal is always better than one in the 90th minute. It gave us a lot of time. We tried everything we could to turn the game around. It was a good performance from us. I would say too, that we were the better team after the restart. We had more chances and in the end ran out deserved winners.

Thomas Müller: In terms of the temperature and pace of the game it was a fiery encounter. We had good chances all throughout the game, and stayed in it even after going down to ten men. It was a difficult challenge for us, but in the end we were rewarded.

Kevin Volland: Disappointing. We conceded in the 90th minute even though we had played well and had chances to put the game to bed. We didn’t do so however, and were punished. Gutting.

Niklas Süle: We were able to play well and resist Bayern for long periods of the game today. We were very close to beating them. We are obviously disappointed but there are lots of positives. We defended well, even against a team who are sometimes simply too good. That makes it even more frustrating, as we lost the game in the last minute.

Hannover 96 vs. Bayer Leverkusen 0:1

Ron-Robert Zieler: The nature of their goal was of course very frustrating. In my opinion, it was never a foul. We played very well for large periods of the game. We lacked the final product in the attacking third, which we will have to work on. We were playing against a very well organised team who made life difficult for us. Our team has undergone a period of transition, and so we have to accept any repercussions. Everything has to move quickly in football though, but we need to give the team time to find 100%. We should pick up points against Mainz next week.

Christoph Kramer: We played good, effective football and let the ball do the running. We were very pleased with our performance at half time, and it was equally good in periods of the second half. We should have scored earlier really. We were solid at the back, and didn’t allow them any dangerous attacks. With the game on Wednesday, this win was even more important. Every point at the beginning of the season is crucial. We have started the season with six points, which we can be proud of.

1. FC Köln vs. VfL Wolfsburg 1:1

Dominique Heintz: It’s always been my dream to play in the Bundesliga. And to play against such big names is good fun. We all enjoyed it today, and should actually have won the game. At the start of the second half we had a huge chance, and had that gone in, we would have had Wolfsburg exactly where we wanted them. In my opinion, we were the better side, which is impressive against an opposition with an excellent attack. We hardly let them settle, and did very well as a team.
