'Man of the match': Müller, Reus, Schürrle and Boateng pick up awards

The Germany Fan Club powered by Coca-Cola were able to finally honour the players this week. At the marketing day in Munich, Thomas Müller, Marco Reus, André Schürrle and Jerome Boateng were presented with their Man of the Match trophies. These were awarded for performances in matches throughout 2015.

Marco Reus has had to wait longest to lift his trophy. The Dortmund attacker was named man of the match after the European Championship qualification match against Georgia in March of last year. The 25-year-old scored the first goal in the 2-0 win, and picked up 51.2% of the votes.

André Schürrle stole the show in the European qualifier against Gibraltar, a 7-0 win. In June 2015, the Wolfsburg winger scored a hat-trick, and picked up 36.6% of the votes for his performance. Thomas Müller won the award by a clearer margin in the Hampden Park match against Scotland, with 53.9% of fans voting for the Bayern striker.

Even though it was Ireland who left the happier team after a 1-0 win in October, it had nothing to do with Jerome Boateng’s performance. The central defender received 21.2% of votes after his solid defensive performance in Dublin.
