Mainz record second win of the season

1. FSV Mainz 05 are slowly but surely beginning to pick up steam in the Bundesliga, following a confident 3-0 victory over Hannover 96 on matchday 3. With six points to their name, Mainz now occupy fifth place in the table. Newly-promoted side FC Ingolstadt are seventh and level on points with the Zerofivers after earning a 1-0 victory away at FC Augsburg. It was already Ingolstadt's second victory on the road this season. Meanwhile, 1. FC Köln turned a 1-0 deficit into a 2-1 victory against Hamburger SV, keeping pace with table-toppers VfL Wolfsburg. VfB Stuttgart, on the other hand, remain without a point after suffering a 4-1 home defeat to Eintracht Frankfurt. No goals were scored in the game between SV Darmstadt 98 and TSG 1899 Hoffenheim.

Mainz secured their comfortable 3-0 victory thanks to a first-half brace by new signing Yoshinori Muto and an early strike in the second half from Yunus Malli, who featured for Germany's U21s during the summer's European Championship. While Hannover still await their first league win of the season, Mainz have now managed two victories on the trot.

Köln make up ground in the standings

Three-times-capped Germany international Lewis Holtby fired Hamburger SV into the lead in Cologne's RheinEnergieStadion just two minutes after the restart, but the hosts, still unbeaten at home this year, battled back and secured a victory thanks to two goals in the space of four minutes. Philipp Hosiner levelled the scores after an assist by Germany international Jonas Hector, before Anthony Modeste's penalty in the 80th minute saw Köln take the lead. HSV's Emir Spahic was sent off with a straight red card in the build-up. Former Germany keeper René Adler was also forced off the pitch in the first half with a shoulder injury.

Meanwhile, Ingolstadt continue to shine on the road following their second away win of the season. Having seen off Mainz on the opening matchday, they recorded a 1-0 win at Augsburg thanks to Mathew Leckie's goal in the 63rd minute.

Elsewhere, Daniel Didavi was able to haul hosts Stuttgart back on level terms against Frankfurt following Adam Hlousek’s own goal, but the visitors were back in the lead before half time thanks to Luc Castaignos' strike. Haris Seferovic's converted penalty midway through the second half killed off the contest, especially after Stuttgart keeper Przemysław Tytoń had been sent off for a foul leading up to the spot kick. Castaignos bagged a second goal shortly before the final whistle to round off the scoring in a 4-1 Eintracht win.
