Mainz 05 II win six-pointer

Four teams currently occupying the relegation zone met in the Sunday fixtures on matchday 15 of the third-division campaign. Mainz 05 II won 1-0 over Jahn Regensburg, while the match between Borussia Dortmund II and Hansa Rostock ended in a 1-1 draw.

Mainz leapfrog SpVgg Unterhaching with those three points and jump to 15th place (16 pts), while Regensburg remain second from bottom (11 pts). Dortmund II and Rostock are non-movers after their draw. Dortmund II occupy 18th place and a relegation spot with eleven points on the board, whereas Rostock lie in 17th with 13 points.

Damian Roßbach with late winner

1. FSV Mainz 05 U23s went into the game full of confidence after their 2-1 win against the current second-place side in the table SV Wehen Wiesbaden on the previous matchday. SSV Jahn Regensburg, who triumphed over bottom club Sonnenhof Großaspach on matchday 14, had to make do without captain Sebastian Nachreiner due to injury.

There were chances for both sides but neither team were able to break the deadlock in the first half. The match seemed to be heading for a draw, until Damian popped up with a minute left of normal time to score the winner for Mainz from close range.

Dortmund without a win in 11 games

Borussia Dortmund’s second string hosted their neighbours in the table Rostock in a relegation battle.

After kick-off was delayed by 90 minutes, Julian Derstroff opened the scoring for the hosts early on with a thunderous drive from 25 metres out. Rostock got into the game more after the break and David Blacha equalised for the visitors in the 52nd minute, converting from a Christian Bickele free kick.

Both teams pushed for a win in the closing 30 minutes but neither side were able to find the cutting edge and the game ended 1-1.
