Lotte cause another DFB Cup shock with win over 1860 Munich

Sportfreunde Lotte's stunning DFB Cup run continues as they overcome yet another higher-ranked team to book their place in the quarter finals. Having beaten Werder Bremen and Bayer Leverkusen to reach this stage, next in their way were 2.Bundesliga side TSV 1860 Munich. Lotte ran out 2-0 winners against the Bavarians, reaching the quarter final stage for the first time in the history of the club.

Lotte earn deserved victory

1860 had more of the ball in the early stages, but were unable to turn it into a real goalscoring opportunity. Lotte threatened little themselves at first, but took the lead with their first proper chance. Kevin Freiberger launched an effort on goal which was pushed away by Stefan Ortega, but only as far as the waiting Jaroslaw Lindner, who chased down the loose ball and put his side in the lead from a tight angle.

Lotte had chances after going ahead for Freiburger, Tim Gorschlüter and Andrej Dej before the break. They eventually doubled their lead deservedly through Freiburger just before the hour mark, and 1860 were unable to raise their level of performance to mount any kind of comeback. As the team's progression was confirmed, the Lotte fans were ecstatic, singing heartily about "going to Berlin".
