Löw: "We’ll keep the door open for him as long as possible"

National coach Joachim Löw very much regrets the loss of Jerome Boateng, but has given the FC Bayern man encouragement. The 27-year-old central defender faces a long period on the sidelines after picking up a muscular injury in the adductor area. "We will support him," said Löw during the marketing day in Munich today.

Löw continued: "I spoke to Jerome in Munich today and told him that I believe in him, and that he is capable of getting on the plane to the European Championships this summer despite the injury. Just like with Sami Khedira ahead of the World Cup in 2014, we will keep the door open for him as long as possible. Jerome is a fighter and works very professionally. He has the desire and the attitude to do everything possible to shorten his time out. He needs patience and it’s important that he doesn’t put himself under pressure."
