Löw: "We took our chances well"

The Germany national team remain on course for World Cup 2018 in Russia following a comfortable 8-0 win away at San Marino. Naturally satisfied with result and performance were Joachim Löw and Co., who gave their thoughts on their fourth win qualifier win on the bounce. DFB.de brings you all the reaction.

Joachim Löw: We obviously can’t read too much into the game. The team tried to score goals and they managed that. Serge showed signs in training that he is very quick and can finish well. We said before the game that we wanted to let the other team do all the running. They didn’t get forward and played damage limitation football. We want to bring young players through so it’s obviously good when they players can train with us. You can’t take too much from today’s game, but for someone like Serge it’s very good for him, After the World Cup win, things didn’t always go our way and we didn’t deliver to expectation. Because of that we decided before the qualification campaign that we want to dominate the group from the beginning, and so far it has worked.

Serge Gnabry: I obviously didn’t expect to score three goals on my debut. I’m delighted! I received some great passes from my teammates. The coach told me to just play my game and show confidence. The last two years have been very difficult for me. The confidence grows with goals. I’m on a run and I hope it continues.

Jonas Hector: It wasn’t easy, the pitch was very deep and slippery. It’s obviously fantastic to win 8-0.

Benjamin Heinrichs: I’m so happy and it still hasn’t sunk in yet what just happened. The team have taken me in really well. I know a few players from the junior teams and Bayer Leverkusen.

Ilkay Gündogan: I’m getting fitter and feeling better every day. That’s obviously a lot down to the club, but playing for the national team is always a special feeling. I’m really enjoying football at the moment.

Pierangelo Manzaroli (San Marino coach): At the start I was worried it would be another 13-0, but then we improved as the first half continued. Then in the second half the difference in class become clear.
