Löw: "We are happy, but there is work to do"

Die Mannschaft secured their place in the European Championships 2016 after beating Georgia 2-1 in Leipzig. This is the twelfth time in a row that Germany have qualified for the finals. Hear what the manager and players had to say after the success.

Joachim Löw: "We displayed some of the same traits as we did in the Ireland game tonight. Right at the beginning we had three great chances that we didn’t take, just like against the Republic of Ireland. Then came the frustration, and we made a few mistakes. I would say that we are happy to have qualified, but unhappy with the last two games overall. We are better than that. There is work to do.

"Marco Reus is an incredible player who should not pass up chances. He has a lot of talent, but today had two very good opportunities that he didn’t take. Today there were many chances missed. We were not in a position to surprise the opponents. You have to say that we allowed them chances too. Neuer had to make two or three incredible saves to prevent us from going behind. We were not quick enough switching from attack to defence."

Wolfgang Niersbach (DFB president): "I was not appointed here in order to let us still be shaky in a game like this. Manuel Neuer made a few saves that not everyone can make. We owe him for that. We made life difficult for ourselves, but we have qualified for the twelfth time in a row. We have wonderful players, but we need to score more. That has become a theme in this qualification round. If we want a game to be relaxed, we need to score early. That was the mistake in the Poland game."

Manuel Neuer: In training we score 50 goals. One of every few balls goes in the net. We need to be more clinical up front and make our own lives easier. We were struggling for a bit after the equaliser as well. That has to change for the European Champions. Hopefully we will find the form that everyone knows us for again."

Max Kruse: "I hit the ball well and with a bit of luck it went in. Against opponents like this it is difficult, but you have to come up with something. We want to keep up our good form."

Mats Hummels: "It is naturally annoying when we pass up so many opportunities, because we could have made it distinctly easier for ourselves. We knew Georgia are a lot better than their ranking might suggest. The coach made that clear. At times they were running at us with three players, and for every team in the world that is a difficult thing to deal with.

Ilkay Gündogan: We are very happy that we won today. It is always difficult against teams who mainly just sit on the sixteen yard line.
