Löw: "Luck wasn’t on our side tonight"

After suffering a 2-0 defeat to hosts France in the semi-final, Germany’s dream of being crowned European Champions is over. Nevertheless, Joachim Löw had positives to say about his side’s performance. DFB.de got all the reactions.

Joachim Löw (Manager): A huge compliment to the team. We played better than our opponents and controlled the game. I believe that we delivered a strong performance. The team dominated. France were anxious, we dominated. We couldn’t get a goal and all the players are extremely disappointed. Luck wasn’t on our side tonight. I can’t blame anyone. The rule is incredibly difficult to interpret. It is an unfortunate situation. It’s bad for the side when a player like Boateng has to go off.

Manuel Neuer: We’ve played well during EURO 2016 but have been knocked out and that is very disappointing. It’s a semi-final, there weren’t any stupid moments or silly mistakes. It’s not a fair result. It’s disappointing to go in at the break trailing as we did. Nevertheless, we still had the chance to bounce back but simply couldn’t score. They were clinical. If it had been 0-0 at the break, that wouldn’t have happened. After France took a 1-0 lead, it was easier for them.

Toni Kroos: We delivered our best performance at EURO 2016 today so it’s strange that we suffered a 2-0 defeat. I can’t blame the team. We carved out good opportunities. We had three or four excellent chances from headers. We fell further behind after a slip.

Oliver Bierhoff (general manager): We controlled and dominated France. We actually had more of the game and should have won. You could see in the closing stages that the ball just wouldn’t go in. At the end of the day, France were luckier. I want to pay compliment to the lads.

Antoine Griezmann (France): I missed a penalty in the Champions League final and wanted to make sure that I buried it this time. The whole nation was behind us. We had to work very hard to succeed. All of us gave absolutely everything.
