Löw demands two wins from two in Euro qualifiers

National coach Joachim Löw has warned against complacency in the Euro qualifiers, and wants to "set the record straight." In the upcoming clashes against leaders Poland in Frankfurt (4 September) and Scotland in Glasgow (7 September), the 55-year-old has said that only two wins from two is acceptable.

After their World Cup triumph in Brazil, Löw and his team have not been entirely convincing in the qualifying matches for the Euros. After six matches, Germany find themselves in second place. For Löw, it is important that they motivate themselves again after last summer.

"We have to reinvent ourselves somewhat, because football is always changing and developing. We can’t let this pass us by," said Löw. "We are always looking to improve, and we are always evaluating what we can do if we want to be world champions again in 2018."

Niersbach: "We will be punished if we ease off"

DFB President Wolfgang Niersbach has reiterated that "we will be punished if we ease off at international level." This doesn’t just apply to the senior team, but also the youth teams. "They all qualified for the final round, but no team ended up winning," noted Niersbach.

The 64-year-old emphasised though, that Germany is still one of the best in the world. "There is though a big difference between one of the best and number one. We must aim to pick up a few titles at youth level," claimed Niersbach.
