Liverpool and Manchester City win

Liverpool were without the injured Emre Can, but still managed to claim second spot in the Premier League after beating Middlesbrough 3-0 away from home. Jürgen Klopp’s side now sit on 34 points and are ahead of third-placed Arsenal on goal difference. Manchester City and Ilkay Gündogan beat Watford 2-0 and are in fourth place with 33 points.

Chelsea remain top of the pile on 40 points, after the London side beat Sunderland 1-0. With Bastian Schweinsteiger on the bench, record champions Manchester United scored a late winner to beat Crystal Palace 2-1. Mesut Özil’s Arsenal lost 2-1 to Everton on Tuesday evening and subsequently missed their chance to put the pressure on Chelsea.

Gündogan comes off with injury

England international Adam Lallana and Belgium international Divock Origi provided the goals for Liverpool. Can was not named in the squad due to a knee injury. Klopp also had to do without keeper Loris Karius, who was replaced by Simon Mignolet.

City’s playmaker Gündogan’s game against Watford was brought to an end prematurely in the 44th minute when Guardiola had no choice but to substitute the Germany international, after he picked up a serious knee injury. Pablo Zabaleta and David Silva were both on target for Giardiola’s side as they ran out 2-0 victors.

Ibrahimovic grabs match-winner for United

Superstar Zlatan Ibrahimovic struck late on to give City’s rivals victory over Crystal Palace. The Swede put away the goal that sent Mourinho’s side on their way to a 2-1 win with his 88th minute effort. Paul Pogba had put United into the lead in first-half stoppage time before Crystal Palace’s James McArthur levelled the scoring in the 66th minute.

This Sunday brings a top of the table clash between Manchester City and Arsenal. Liverpool face city rivals Everton away from home on Monday, while Manchester United meet West Bromwich Albion on Saturday. Reigning champions Leicester City and former Germany international Robert Huth will take on Stoke City.
