Lewandowski scores quickest hat-trick in Bundesliga history

Bayern München’s Robert Lewandowski scored the quickest hat-trick in Bundesliga history on Tuesday night, as well as becoming the first player in 24 years to score five goals in a game. The Poland international took just 3:22 minutes to score his first three goals of the game.

Michael Tönnies previously held the record of a five minute hat-trick in the same half, set on 27th August 1992 during the 6-2 win against Karlsruher SC. It was also the last time that a player had scored five goals in a single Bundesliga match.

Lewandowski also broke the record for the fastest player to score four (seven minutes) and five (nine minutes) goals in Bundesliga history. Bulgarian Martin Petrov had scored four goals in 17 minutes for VfL Wolfsburg against Mainz 05 on 30th October 2004, whilst Dieter Hoeneß had scored five in 21 minutes during FC Bayern’s 6-0 victory over Braunschweig on 25th February 1984.
