Leverkusen remain on course for Champions League

Bayer Leverkusen have the top-tier of European competition in their sights once again. They beat SC Paderborn 3-0 on matchday 24 thanks to goals from Kyriakos Papadopoulos (73’) and Heung-Min Son (84’/90’+3). Leverkusen are now in direct competition for a Champions League spot with Augsburg and Schalke 04.

Papadopoulos opens the scoring

The first half of the game was relatively uneventful – the hosts fought hard and made life difficult for the visitors. Karim Bellarabi was a constant thorn in their side but it was Paderborn’s Alban Meha who had the best chance ahead of the break.

The newly promoted side created more chances after the break and could have taken the lead through Stefan Kutschke (55’/59’). They would live to regret these chances as Kyriakos Papadopoulos’ header put Bayer 04 in front. The victory was sealed late on thanks to two goals from Son.
