Leupolz strikes late to give Germany sixth win

Germany's Women's National Team suffered a double scare in their 3-2 (0-1) win in their sixth World Cup qualifier in Ireland, when Melanie Leupolz scored in the dying seconds to save a clean sheet of six wins in as many matches.

The Irish shocked the European Champions with an early header by defender Louise Quinn, conceding the first goal of their campaign after just two minutes. Germany never found a way through the strong irish defence. A penalty by Simone Laudehr after 64 minutes opened the way to another German win and when Lena Lotzen made it 2-1 six minutes from time, everything seemed to be business as usual.

But the hosts had one more answer to give and celebrated a late equalizer one minute from time by Stephanie Roche. But just when everybody thought, that the German series of five wins in a row would come to a surprising end, Leupolz' cross sailed over goalie Emma Byrne for another win.
