Leipzig win 4-1 in Freiburg

RB Leipzig will spend another week at the top of the Bundesliga after beating SC Freiburg 3-1 on Friday evening. RB Leipzig have won their last seven Bundesliga games and are really livening things up at the top of the league.

Record champions FC Bayern München are now six points behind RB Leipzig in second place. Naby Keita (2’), Timo Werner (21’, 35’) and Marcel Sabitzer (79’) scored for RB Leipzig on Friday evening. Florian Niederlechner scored an equaliser for SC Freiburg in the 15th minute.

Keita scores after 80 seconds

RB Leipzig got off to the perfect start when Naby Keita opened the scoring for the guests after just 80 seconds. Werner made things even more difficult for the hosts, scoring a brace in the first half to make it 3-1 to RB Leipzig.

RB Leipzig became the first club from East Germany to top the Bundesliga since Hansa Rostock (1991) last week, just seven years after the club was founded.

Sabitzer secures victory for RB Leipzig

“We are full of confidence,” said Ralph Hasenhüttl before the game. However, he definitely wouldn’t have been pleased that his centre-backs just watched Pascal Stenzel’s cross which led to SC Freiburg’s equaliser in the first half.

SC Freiburg started the second half well. However, they couldn’t make the most of their chances. Nicolas Höfler came close to scoring in the 59th minute from a tight angle.

RB Leipzig were attacking well on the counter and creating a lot of chances. They secured the victory in the 79th minute when Marcel Sabitzer scored the winner. However, SC Freiburg goalkeeper Alexander Schwolow could have dealt with the shot better to keep the scoreline at 3-1.
