Leipzig go top courtesy of Selke strike

Germany U21 international Davie Selke fired RB Leipzig to top spot in the 2. Bundesliga on matchday 15. The 20-year-old striker scored the only goal in the 1-0 victory over Arminia Bielefeld. The other Saturday game saw TSV 1860 München secure a 2-0 win against FC St. Pauli, who went into the matchday level on points with table toppers Freiburg and Leipzig. Freiburg can still keep up with the pace on Sunday, when they host fellow relegated side SC Paderborn.

Bielefeld gave Leipzig plenty of problems in the first half, until Selke scored in the 40th minute, closing down the spaces well and featuring an organised defensive unit. Leipzig initially struggled to find a breakthrough, but on the other hand had no problems keeping the ball at distance to their own goal. It took a bit of luck in the build-up to the goal, as Selke profited inside Bielefeld's area following a failed clearance, before slotting home past keeper Wolfgang Hesl from a tight angle.

It was a balanced game in the second half, with Arminia looking dangerous at times, but overall Leipzig were the better side with a more mature game plan. Stefan Ilsanker nearly doubled the hosts' lead after 73 minutes, but Stephan Salger cleared the ball off the line. Bielefeld striker Fabian Klos nearly levelled the score in the closing stages of the match, but Leipzig keeper Fabio Coltorti kept out his attempt.

Liendl stuns St. Pauli

St. Pauli controlled the opening minutes of the game in Munich, with 1860 keeper Vitus Eicher frequently called into action. First he deflected Waldemar Sobota's shot onto the post, then he picked off a corner, before Lennart Thy's header in the 17th minute had him beaten, albeit with the shot just missing the target.

The hosts eventually managed to find their way into the game and deserved to take the lead eight minutes into the second half, as Michael Liendl fired a stunning strike from 25 yards past visiting keeper Robin Himmelmann. Rubin Okotie doubled 1860's lead a few minutes later, also from long range. 1860 continued to play attacking football until the final whistle, earning their second win of the season.
