Leher TS want to go one better against Köln

Things could hardly be better for Leher TS Bremerhaven of the Bremen league right now. After securing the biggest triumph in the club's 120 year history by beating favourites Bremer SV on penalties to win the Landespokal, now the club from the north of Germany can look forward to a DFB Pokal first round meeting with Bundesliga giants FC Köln on Satuday 12th August (15:30 CEST).

Leher's captain Stephan Zander was delighted, for one reason in particular, "It's a super draw for us. We went to Köln at the end of last season; we know the pubs there." But the team from Bremerhaven want to make sure they do themselves justice on the pitch, as well as off it. The game at the time-honoured Nordseestadion is, understandably, sold out. Around 10,000 fans will be at this "David versus Goliath" tussle.

"The hopes of the home team will rest partly on striker Jan-Niklas Kersten, who has scored 28 goals in 30 league games for the club. He comes from a footballing family, as his sister Alicia currently plays in the Allianz Women's Bundesliga for Werder Bremen, having won promotion last year. Köln will be without their top scorer from last season, Anthony Modeste, who has left the club for China. The Europa League club should still have enough quality in the squad, however, particularly in the form of Confed Cup winner Jonas Hector and U21 European champion Lukas Klünter.
