League Cup: Can and Liverpool one step closer to final

Manager Jürgen Klopp is one step closer to his first title in England. The Reds, with Germany international Emre Can, triumphed 1-0 in the first leg of their League Cup semi-final against Stoke City, giving them an advantage going into the second leg on the 26th January at Anfield.

“The only thing that could be criticised was our conversion success,” said Klopp. “We were well-structured, played nice football, but didn’t put our chances away.”

Substitute Jordan Ibe got the goal in the 37th minute, but Klopp left the Britannia stadium unsatisfied. In the first half, he lost Coutinho and Dejan Lovren through hamstring injuries, and both were forced off. Emre Can played the whole 90 minutes, and put in another strong performance.

Stoke, who find themselves just one point behind Liverpool in the Premier League, have a somewhat rejuvenated side and boast attacking talents such as Philipp Wollscheid, Xherdan Shaqiri, Marko Arnautovic and Ibrahim Afellay.
