Laudehr, Popp and Schult all carrying knocks

Ahead of the final group game of the World Cup against underdogs Thailand, the Germany women’s team have a number of injury problems to deal with. There are doubts hanging over midfielder Simon Laudehr (slight abdominal tear) and striker Alexandra Popp’s (knee problem) availability for the match on Monday (22:00 CEST). Both sat out of training on Saturday.

In addition, Almuth Schult has suffered an injury to her left finger. Despite a knuckle injury, she was able to take part in training. Midfielder Melanie Leupolz, meanwhile, is once again available for selection following a bruised pubic pone injury.

Germany go into the match as table toppers with four points, level with Norway who face the Ivory Coast in Group B’s other fixture. “We won’t underestimate Thailand, they also want to get through and definitely won’t be gifting us any points”, said defender Leonie Maier during Saturday’s press conference. Having beaten the Ivory Coast 3-2, the Asian side have three points to their name.
