Kuntz: "I enjoyed it a lot"

Nearly 7,000 spectators in Kassel witnessed the DFB-Team U21s win their first game under new head coach Stefan Kuntz on Friday night. The boss was understandably delighted with his side’s performance. “I’m happy with how the team performed. We did what we set out today. Considering I’ve not spent much time with the lads so far, they did extremely well,” he explained after the final whistle.

Kuntz: "I want to know how the players think"

At the press conference a lot of questions were asked of Kuntz. What was it like to be on the touchline? What goes through your head during the game? The 54-year-old stated that “it was a special moment when we were stood together during the anthems. International fixtures are clearly very special. The supporters were excellent. I enjoyed it a lot.”

“Obviously we still need to fine-tune some things,” explained Kuntz. “I want to know how the players think and they want to know what I expect from them. That will come with time. The important thing was that we got off to a strong start,” he added.

On Monday the players head to Seinäjoki ahead of Tuesday’s European Championship qualifier against Finland. The DFB-Team have won all seven of their qualifiers to date and are looking to maintain their good form: “It’ll be my maiden competitive fixture on charge, which is exciting. We’re looking to go and beat Finland.”
