KSC move up to second – 1860’s struggles continue

Karlsruher SC have moved up to a direct promotion spot for the second time this season. They were 3-2 winners against relegation-threatened 1860 München on matchday 17 of the 2. Bundesliga, meaning they have now gone eight straight games unbeaten (W5, D3) and are Ingolstadt’s closest rivals in the title race with 30 points to their name. 1860’s nightmarish season continues though. Markus von Ahlen’s side have now lost three on the trot, while it was their tenth defeat in 17 games this season. They tally of 15 points sees them sitting 16th in the relegation play-off place.

Fortuna Düsseldorf got back to winning ways following a run of three games without victory, beating FSV Frankfurt 2-0 away from home. Fortuna’s seventh win of the season puts them fourth for now with 28 points. FSV remain in a relegation battle just 18 points on the board. The third Saturday game in the second division saw Eintracht Braunschweig and Union Berlin draw 1-1. The result sees last season’s Bundesliga outfit drop down to sixth, while the side from Germany’s capital are in eleventh.
