KSC drop points – Ingolstadt and Darmstadt victorious

Karlsruher SC have fallen behind in the 2. Bundesliga promotion race after being held to a draw in Aalen on matchday 27. 1. FC Kaiserslautern (49 points) had already secured a victory on Saturday, while table toppers FC Ingolstadt (52) and third-placed SV Darmstadt 98 (48) followed suit on Easter Sunday.

Ingolstadt recorded a 2-0 home victory against eleventh-placed FSV Frankfurt, extending their lead over KSC to seven points. Darmstadt also booked a 2-0 win over VfL Bochum. Karlsruhe, on the other hand, were held to a 2-2 draw on the road against relegation-threatened VfR Aalen.

Struggling TSV 1860 München lost 1-0 at home in a crucial six-pointer with Erzgebirge Aue, which saw their cushion to the relegation zone reduced to just one point. Sunday's 2. Bundesliga action was completed with SV Sandhausen earning a 1-1 draw with Union Berlin and RB Leipzig recording a 2-1 victory over 1. FC Nürnberg, thus keeping a glimmer of hope for promotion alive.

The game between Darmstadt and Bochum kicked off with a ten-minute delay but that didn’t appear to affect the hosts’ concentration, as they took a first-half lead through Romain Bregerie. Leon Balogun doubled Darmstadt's advantage in the 77th minute to wrap up the points.

Ralph Hasenhüttl's men were struggling with their build-up play, but a set piece got the job done as Benjamin Hübner rose highest to meet a corner kick and give the hosts the lead on 22 minutes. Lukas Hinterseer scored his eighth goal of the season after the break, effectively ending the contest.

Aalen were behind after just two minutes of their home game against Karlsruher SC, as Rouwen Hennings curled a beautiful shot into the top corner. Jürgen Gjasula brought Aalen back into the game shortly after the restart from the penalty spot. KSC managed to regain their lead through Ilijan Micanski in the 64th minute, but Gjasula quickly bagged a second goal of the day just one minute later to haul Aalen level again and earn his side a precious point.

Romario Kortzorg scored the only goal of the game after six minutes, with 1860 unable to stage a comeback and thus dropping back to within one point of the relegation zone.

The game between SV Sandhausen and Union Berlin ended in a 1-1 draw, courtesy of two own goals. Union's Christopher Trimmel scored for Sandhausen in the sixth minute and Timo Achenbach returned the favour six minutes into the second half.

Nürnberg started brightly in their game at Leipzig's Red Bull Arena, creating several good chances early on. RBL keeper Fabio Coltorti had to make a number of fine saves to keep his team from falling behind. He was beaten in the 29th minute though, as Guido Burgstaller flicked a free kick from Sebastian Kerk into the back of the net with his head. Leipzig put in a completely difference performance in the second half and were back on level terms just seconds after the restart with Yordy Reyna scoring the equaliser. RBL skipper Dominik Kaiser completed the comeback in the 76th minute, giving his team belief that promotion is still a possibility.
