Kruse claims to have the necessary self-confidence and aspiration. He does not want to be fielded, because forwards with his style of play are said to be rare in Germany at the moment. Instead, he wants to merit his place on the team based on his performances. “Obviously I want to be part of the team. I’ve played about ten international fixtures over the course of the last two years, that’s a decent amount. Recently, I’ve often been part of the extended squad, but I want more,” Kruse added.
The Gladbach player was not part of the team that travelled to Brazil. Löw invited him into the preliminary squad but finally decided against taking him along.
