Kruse bags hat-trick, Müller secures BL record for Bayern

The Germany internationals were in fine form on Bundesliga matchday 9. Leading the charge was Wolfsburg's Max Kruse, who bagged a hat-trick in the Wolves' 4-2 victory over Hoffenheim.

FC Bayern München set a new Bundesliga record thanks to their 1-0 victory at SV Werder Bremen, as they became the first team to win their opening nine league games. Thomas Müller's ninth goal of the campaign was enough for the defending champions to claim yet another record.

Meyer scores last-minute goal for Schalke

Benedikt Höwedes made his starting debut this season after having recovered from an ankle injury. His return immediately had an impact with the Germany international nodding home for the opener against Hertha BSC. Salomon Kalou equalised midway through the second half, but DFB-Team youngster Max Meyer fired Schalke back in front with a last-minute strike. The win means S04 remain in third place, just one point adrift of archrivals Borussia Dortmund.

Last season's runners-up VfL Wolfsburg follow in fourth place after a 4-2 win over TSG 1899 Hoffenheim. Germany's Max Kruse, who had provided the winner against Georgia during the week, continued his fine form and bagged three goals for the Wolves.

Gladbach continue winning run

Saturday's late kick-off saw Borussia Mönchengladbach record a fourth straight Bundesliga victory to continue their incredible change in fortunes. Eintracht Frankfurt were on the wrong end of an emphatic 5-1 scoreline, as the Foals inflicted the majority of the damage in the second half. Braces from Raffael and André Hahn, as well as a deflected strike from Germany U20 international Mahmoud Dahoud, earned Gladbach a comfortable victory, while Alex Meier got the Eagles' solitary goal from the penalty spot. Armin Veh's side are now without a win in five league games.

Bayer 04 Leverkusen were held to a 0-0 draw at Hamburger SV, thus failing to keep pace with the top teams in the standings. With 14 points from nine games, World Cup winner Christoph Kramer & Co. sit in eighth place, while Hamburg remain in mid-table obscurity with eleven points.

Effective Bayern secure win in Bremen

The defending Bundesliga champions were in control from the start in Bremen, having 82 per cent possession in the opening 45 minutes. Müller's opener midway through the first half was fully deserved, as Werder struggled to create any real chances until the second half, when Anthony Ujah had a good effort denied by Die Mannschaft number 1 Manuel Neuer. The win sees FC Bayern set a new Bundesliga record, with nine wins from the opening nine league games a first in the German top flight.

Newly promoted team SV Darmstadt 98 continue their impressive display in the Bundesliga, as they recorded a 2-0 win at Europa League participants FC Augsburg. 13 points from nine games is an impressive feat for the Lilies, and they have managed to create a healthy gap between themselves and the relegation zone. Sandro Wagner and Peter Niemeyer scored the goals in the first half, while FCA continue to struggle after a fourth straight game without a win. With just five points so far this season, they currently find themselves in 16th place.
