Toni Kroos got the better of Lukas Podolski in a friendly match featuring two World Champions last night. Midfielder Kroos and his Real Madrid side won the Santiago Bernabéu Trophy with a 2-1 win over Podolski's Galatasaray, with both German internationals appearing in the starting line-ups for their respective clubs.
Real took the lead courtesy of Nacho on 18 minutes, but Dutchman Wesley Sneijder equalised for the Turkish side on his return to his former ground. Brazil international Marcelo got the winner for Real on new manager Rafael Benitez's home debut.
It was Real's final match before their first league game of the season, away at Sporting Gijon on Sunday. Galatasaray got their Turkish Süper Lig season underway last weekend with a 2-2 draw against Sivasspor.
