Kroos celebrates another victory with Real Madrid

Toni Kroos helped to keep Real Madrid on course for another La Liga title on matchday 23. Los Blancos recorded a comfortable 2-0 victory over Espanyol and moved onto 52 points at the top of La Liga. As ever, Kroos pulled the strings in the centre of midfield at the Bernabau and gave a first-class performance.

Alvaro Morata headed in an Isco cross in the 33rd minute to give Madrid the lead. As Espanyol showed increasing attacking intent towards the end of the game, Isco led a counter attack for the home side, which Gareth Bale finished off on his return from injury in the 83rd minute.

Zidane rests many key players

While Kroos ploughed on for the full 90 minutes, Zinedine Zidane rested numerous regulars from the Real Madrid team. Luka Modric, Karim Benzema, Casemiro, Marcelo and Keylor Navas were all left out, while Sergio Ramos played no part because of a hip problem.

Madrid lead Barcelona by four points at the top of the table. The Catalans are in action on Sunday evening against CD Leganés (20:45 CET). Real have played one game less than Barca.

Manchester City forced into F.A. Cup replay

In the last 16 of the F.A. Cup, Manchester City were only able to record a 0-0 draw with Huddersfield Town and must, therefore, replay the tie against the Championship side on 28th February. City coach Pep Guardiola rested key players for the match including Germany international Leroy Sane, who came on alongside Kevin de Bruyne in the 69th minute.

Leicester City are out. With Germany international Ron-Robert Zieler in goal, the reigning champions of England lost out 1-0 to Millwall of League 1. Shaun Cummings scored the winning goal in the 90th minute for Millwall, who played with 10 men from the 52nd minute due to the second yellow card shown to Jake Cooper.
