Kroos and Real play to draw in Manchester

Toni Kroos and Real Madrid faced Manchester City in the Etihad stadium in the first leg of the Champions League semi-final. It was a tight affair in which neither side was willing to commit many men up front and it ended appropriately in a 0-0 draw, setting up an enthralling second-leg of the tie to be played at the Santiago Bernabeu.

The evening didn't get off to a good start for the visitors as before game had even kicked-off, it became clear that Ronaldo would not be able to play due to knock that he has been carrying. This would be an advantage for the home side, considering Ronaldo had scored a hattrick in the previous round against Wolfsburg to take his team through.

No shots on goal in the first 45

The first half was not the most entertaining either for the neutral, or the 51,000 odd spectators in the stadium. Both teams played defensively and they went in at the break with neither having had a shot a on goal, let alone making the breakthrough.

The second half was more livel, and shortly after the interval Aguero saw his shot go just over the bar. Ramos' powerful shot was hit directly at Joe Hart for what was Real's biggest chance of the game. The visitors looked more comfortable on the ball in the second 45 and they pressed forward, but looked happy to take a goalless draw back to Spain.
