Kroos and Real book place in Champions League final

The Champions League final will be an all-Spanish affair. In fact, it will be a Madrid derby, as Real Madrid this evening booked their place in the final on May 28th after beating Manchester City 1-0 on aggregate. They face Atletico Madrid in Milan after they knocked Bayern out on Tuesday.

Manchester City midfielder Fernando scored the only goal of the game in the 20th minute - an own goal. Gareth Bale’s shot from the right was slightly deflected by Fernando, and flew into the top corner giving Joe Hart no chance. Real were boosted before kick off by the return of super star Ronaldo, who sat out the first leg with a thigh injury. 78,000 spectators made for an incredible atmosphere throughout the match, which despite being close in terms of scoreline, was fairly comfortable for the home side.

Keeper Hart keeps City in the game

Ronaldo slotted in centrally in place of the injured Karim Benzema, and the Portugal international threatened particularly in the air. In the 13th minute, he placed a header over the bar and in the 55th minute, Joe Hart had to be alert to catch his header, which was destined for the goal.

Manchester City will have to settle for just a League Cup title this season after dropping out of both the FA Cup and the race for the Premier League. On the other hand, Zidane’s side still have a chance to win the double in La Liga and what would be an astonishing 11th Champions League trophy.
