Kramer returns to Mönchengladbach

World champion Christoph Kramer has returned to Borussia Mönchengladbach. The 25-year-old midfielder from Bayer Leverkusen has signed a contract with the foals until 2021. Borussia revealed the news on Wednesday after he passed his medical. For the Champions League participants, Kramer will replace Swiss international Granit Xhaka, who has moved to Arsenal for 45 million Euros.

“We gave Christoph back to Leverkusen a year ago very reluctantly, and now we are extremely pleased that we could bring him back to Borussia”, said sporting director Max Eberl: “He is familiar with our team, he knows the club well, and with his experience and personality, he will play an important role in our young team.”

Kramer played for Gladbach on loan from 2013 to 2015, and his return has reportedly cost Borussia 15 million Euros. If this is correct, then the international with 12 caps to his name who missed out on Joachim Löw’s EURO 2016 squad due to an inconsistent season, will become the most expensive player in the club’s history.
