Köln come out on top in goal frenzy

1. FC Köln picked up their first home win since October today against Eintracht Frankfurt. The 4-2 success came about thanks to goals from recent signing Deyverson (28’), Marcel Risse (72’), Yuya Osako (79’) and Anthony Ujah (82’). Alexander Meier (58’/90’+3) scored for the visitors.

The first half was a relatively tame affair, with both defences standing firm. Chances were few and far between throughout the first period but the hosts went in front thanks to a deft chip from Brazilian Deyverson, who gave Kevin Trapp no chance.

Meier tops the scoring charts

Ahead of the break Slawomir Peszco (33’) and Anthony Ujah (43’) had chances to double the lead. Alex Meier’s quick reactions in the box levelled the scores after 58 minutes. The final 20 minutes of the game served up a further four goals. Risse’s sumptuous finish restored the host’s lead - Osako and Ujah extended the lead. Kevin Wimmer fouled Seferovic in injury time and received his marching orders. The resulting penalty was slotted home by Meier, who is now the league’s top scorer with 18 goals.
