Klose’s goal for Germany

He was held tight, tagged and pulled. Klose made a false step. Klose went on his knees. Klose propped himself up and kept on going. He wanted that goal at all costs. So much that he shook off all rational reasons not to succeed. Nobody can stop me. this moment belongs to me. It was a great moment in a big game, shaped by full conviction. Klose was willing to score and a goal for Germany was more important than anything else in this point of time.

Then it happened. The ball went in where it belongs: Behind the goalkeeper David James. “Luckily the ball jumped towards my direction”, Klose was meant to say the day after. “I just needed to fight and get the ball in the net. This wasn’t a difficult task anymore”. It was the first time that the German side got the better of David James on that legendary evening of June 27th 2010. Three more German goals followed.

Bayern Munich’s forward started the goal festival. It was hard to believe Klose experienced the most difficult time during his career this season. He contributed only three goals to Bayern’s 22nd Championship. Most of the time, Klose was a shadow of Ivica Olic and his former self. Still, he excluded all possibility of doubt. Before the World Cup, Klose constituted his strength to be able to concentrate precisely up to a point in time. There were a lot of people who had doubts about that. After the match against England, Klose made his announcement again. This time nobody questioned it anymore.

In 25 matches with FC Bayern he scored only one goal more, than on his three previous performances in the German jersey in South Africa. At the FIFA World Cup Klose blooms in the glow of happiness! – And with him his entire home country – like every time again at a World Cup. He scored 5 goals in 2002, five goals in 2006 and 2 goals in 2010 so far. In total, it’s full by a dozen. Hereby Klose stands on level with Pele. With Pele! Only Just Fontain (13), Gerd Müller (14) and Ronaldo (15) can say for themselves that they have yet scored more goals than the 32 year old Klose. Yet!

How you can explain that? With confidence in the German physical therapists, the doctors, the complete management and most of all confidence in Joachim Löw: “He shows me in every practice that he believes in me and my skills and qualities. He gives me time. He counts on me, even when it doesn’t go so well”, says the man who outran and outmuscles all the English players.

The goal vs. England was Klose’s 50th for the DFB. He wants to score more goals. The best way is to score on his jubilee match to be played against Argentina, when Klose is going to play his 100Th match for Germany. And the end is not near. “As long as my feet will carry me”, says Klose, “as long as I can I will try to play football.” And score many more goals.
