Khedira on the scoresheet in Juventus win

Sami Khedira’s opening goal helped Italian champions Juventus increase their lead at the top of the Serie A table. The team from Turin won 3-0 in the end against promoted side Delfino Pescara 1936, after Khedira had given them them the lead in the 36th minute, aided by good work from former Bayern and Wolfsburg man Mario Mandžukić. Khedira went from goalscorer to provider in the second half, returning the favour for the Croatian striker as he doubled their lead in the 63rd minute. Hernanes rounded off the scoring 6 minutes later to confirm the points for Juventus.

Juventus currently sit six points clear at the top of the table with 33 points, but their closest chasers AS Roma, who boast Germany international Antonio Rüdiger in their squad, have played one game fewer than them.

Despite the absence of the injured Toni Kroos, Real Madrid put in a strong performance to beat local rivals Atlético Madrid 3-0. All three goals were scored by Cristiano Ronaldo. His deflected free kick put them ahead in the first half, with another strike and a subsequent penalty making their lead unassailable. The win put Real Madrid top of La Liga, as Barcelona failed to overcome FC Malaga in a 0-0 draw, in which Marc-André ter Stegen kept a clean sheet. Barcelona now sit four points behind leaders Real Madrid.

Arsenal run continues at Old Trafford

A late strike by Olivier Giroud saw Arsenal FC secure a 1-1 draw against Manchester United at the Old Trafford. The Gunners thus remain unbeaten in their last eleven games. Juan Mata gave Manchester United the lead after 68 minutes.

World Champions Mesut Özil and Shkodran Mustafi were in the starting line-up for Arsenal. Their keeper Petr Cech made several key saves to prevent Arsenal from falling behind earlier. Substitute Olivier Giroud’s header ensured that Arséne Wenger’s team have only lost once this season, against Jürgen Klopp’s Liverpool on the opening matchday.

Emre Can didn’t start for Liverpool in their 0-0 draw against Southampton FC. Despite the result, Liverpool are still top of the Premier League table. Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City beat Crystal Palace 2-1 thanks to a brace from Yaya Touré (39’, 83’). Leroy Sané didn’t come off the bench and Ilkay Gündogan wasn’t in the matchday squad.
