Khedira helps Juve to a win against AS Roma

World Champion Sami Khedira was in the Juventus starting eleven, as the Turin side overcame AS Roma 1-0, to extend their lead at the top of the league table. On matchday 17 of Serie A, Gonzalo Higuain scored the only goal of the game in the 14th minute to secure all three points. Juventus now hold a seven point lead over second-placed Roma, who also had Germany international Antonio Rüdiger in their starting eleven.

Khedira assists Higuain opener

The home side controlled the game right from the beginning and went into a deserved earl lead through Gonzalo Higuain (14’). After being assisted by Sami Khedira, the Argentine did brilliantly to get past Kostas Manolas, before firing a left-footed shot in to the top left-hand corner. Roma looked to hit back with an equaliser. Antonio Rüdiger made good progress down the right and crossed in for Radja Nainggolan. However, the Belgian couldn’t put the ball on target and trouble Gianliuigi Buffon in the Juventus goal (24’). The home side then took control of the game, without creating too many clear-cut opportunities.

Both teams again looked solid at the back after the break meaning little action in front of goal. Stefano Sturaro did have a good chance to extend the home side’s lead, after a clever pass from former Bayern man Mario Mandzukic. However, Roma’s goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny made a strong save from the Italy international.
