Kevin Schindler scores against Iceland in his first appearance
German U 21 national team beat Iceland 3-0 in a friendly match on Friday. Robert Fleßers, Kevin Schindler in his first appearance and Marko Marin scored for the theam coached by Dieter Eilts. On Tuesday, Germany play away to Luxembourg in a match for the European Championships 2009 (kickoff 7.45 P.M., live on DSF).
Germany ranks first in Group I of the qualifying round, being the only undefeated team in the field of five teams: Israel, Northern Ireland, Moldawia and Luxembourg. "We would like to spend the winter break in first place, which means that we have to beat Luxembourg, I expect a win from my team", said Eilts.
Team captain Eugen Polanski has already played 18 games for the U 21, followed by Osnabrueck's forward Rouwen Hennings, who has scored nine goals in 13 games.
Germany has played Luxemburg five times, winning all five games. So far, the German U 21 have registered 7 pts in three games, with Israel also totalling 7 pts., but sporting an inferior goal differential.
