Karlsruher suffer setback in promotion race, 1860 in trouble

Greuther Fürth can now breathe a little easier following their 3-0 victory against Fortuna Düsseldorf. It was their first home win since 3rd October last year. Marco Stiepermann, Robert Zulj and Goran Sukalo scored the goals for Fürth, who managed to put a bit more distance between themselves and the relegation zone. Meanwhile, Fortuna remain in seventh place.

Heidenheim and Sandhausen share the spoils

Florian Niederlechner twice fired Heidenheim into the lead in Sandhausen, but Aziz Bouhaddouz and Ranislav Jovanovic equalised for the hosts. The draw will likely have been enough for Sandhausen to ensure their second-tier status for next season, as they are currently seven points above the drop zone with just three more games left to play. Heidenheim are eight points clear of danger and also look to be safe.

Erzgebirge Aue landed a crucial victory in the 2. Bundesliga relegation battle on matchday 31, claiming a fully deserved 3-1 home win over promotion candidates Karlsruher SC. Aue, who were bottom in the league going into the game, are now 16th, while KSC missed the chance to move into second. They currently find themselves in fourth following the defeat, sitting one point behind Darmstadt in the promotion play-off spot.

Stefan Mugosa bagged a brace for Aue either side of Manuel Torres’ equaliser for Karlsruhe. Clemens Fandrich ultimately decided the game by making it 3-1 for the hosts with five minutes left to play.

St. Pauli secure surprise victory

RB Leipzig will not play a role in this season's promotion race following a shock 1-0 defeat to relegation candidates FC St. Pauli. It was the third consecutive home win for the Hamburg side, as they left the relegation zone for the first time in months.

23,584 spectators watch on as Lennart Thy scored the only goal of the game, just seconds before the half-time whistle. The goal was a reward for the hosts’ passionate performance in the opening 45 minutes. Leipzig never managed to find their rhythm and failed to come up with the necessary reply to St. Pauli's committed display. RB Leipzig have now dropped to sixth after the defeat and trail the promotion play-off spot by six points with just three games left to play.

Aalen back in last place after home loss

VfR Aalen were unbeaten in seven straight games (W2, D5) ahead of this matchday, but they suffered a 4-2 home defeat to VfL Bochum, sending them back to the bottom of the table. It was also Aalen's first home defeat of 2015. Onur Bulut opened the scoring for Bochum 15 minutes after kick-off, but was then shown a straight red card together with Aalen's Arne Feick, after a coming together between the two players on 20 minutes.

Bochum continued to control the game and doubled their advantage through Simon Terodde's 16th goal of the season. Marco Terrazzino scored Bochum's third ten minutes after the restart, before Aalen's Collin Quaner netted a spectacular own goal with his back heel shortly after the hour mark, handing Bochum a commanding 4-0 lead in Aalen. The hosts attempted to stage a comeback, but only managed to reduce the deficit by two via Markus Steinhöfer's converted penalty and substitute Orhan Ademi’s strike. The victory ensures that Bochum will not go down, but relegation fears grow in Aalen.

Union hand 1860 a crucial blow

TSV 1860 München’s crisis continues after they suffered a very disappointing 3-0 home loss to Union Berlin. The result leaves them in a direct relegation spot. Union, on the other hand, are safe in mid-table and will be looking to finish in the top half.

Sebastian Polter's brace and Kamir Kreilach's strike provided the goals for Union in Munich. The hosts created several promising chances, but lacked a clinical touch as their poor home record goes on. They have only managed three wins in the Allianz Arena this season, while they have suffered nine defeats and conceded 26 goals in 16 home matches.

Fürth end poor home run
