Kalou scores hat-trick as Hertha win in Hannover

Hertha BSC celebrated a 3-1 victory over Hannover in the opening game of matchday 12, meaning that, at least for a night, they jump up to fourth place in the Bundesliga, Hannover stay stuck in 14th. The man of the moment was Salomon Kalou, who scored a hat-trick on the evening to seal the victory. Hiroshi Kiyotake converted from the penalty spot in the 70th minute to bring the scores to 2-1, but Kalou's thrid ensured the win for his team.

40,200 spectators witnessed the game in the HDI-Arena. Throughout the game, Hertha controlled most of the possession, despite not creating a great deal of chances. It was just over half an hour before the deadlock was broken, as the ball fell to Kalou, who put the ball in the back of the net. Kiyotake had a great chance to equalise just before the break, but he saw effort go just past the post. Kalou's second goal was another case of the ball falling to him kindly, after a shot was blocked, but he calmly finished to double the team from the capital's lead. Hannover were handed a glimmer of hope as Bech was brought down in the area, and Kiyotake scored the following penalty, but that hope was lost when Zieler got a hand to, but failed to keep out Kalou's third effort.
