Juventus and Khedira lose Supercup

World Champions Sami Khedira and his side Juventus were defeated in the Italian Supercup by AC Milan. The scores were locked at 1-1 after 120 minutes, but Milan had the edge in the penalty shootout, beating Juventus 4-3 to celebrate their first national trophy since 2012.

Khedira, who moved to Juventus from Real Madrid in the summer of 2015, had won the competition in his first season at the club, who currently sit comfortably on top of the Serie A table.

The team from Turin took the lead after 16 minutes through Giorgio Chiellini, but Milan equalised before the break through Giacomo Bonaventura in the 38th minute. Khedira converted his effort in the shootout, but former Bundesliga forward Mario Mandzukic missed his.

The Italian Supercup has been held in Asia since 2009, with two exceptions. Last season, Juventus beat Lazio 2-0 to claim the title.
