Jones visits Fürth ahead of Brazil match

The European champions play the South American champions on 8th April (18:00 CEST) in Fürth’s Stadion am Laubenweg. Germany face Brazil in a tough test ahead of this summer’s World Cup in a game which will excited the players and supporters.

Three weeks ahead of the game DFB director Steffi Jones and a delegation visited the city to drum up excitement for the match. She met the mayor Markus Braun in the town hall. They exchanged gifts and spoke of their excitement for the match. As a sign of her gratitude to the city, the former Germany international gave a signed Germany women’s shirt.

"We’re looking forward to it"

The mayor was delighted to welcome Jones and the delegation to Fürth and described it as an honour: “She’s a wonderful ambassador for women’s football globally, not just in Germany. We’re looking forward to the game.” He also cheekily implied that supporters would be looking forward to the game as their local side, Greuther, haven’t been scoring or winning that frequently recently.

Steffi Jones thanked the city and the club for their support. She told onlookers that the players would be attempting to live up to the game’s motto - “Samba in Fürth” - as well as giving their all in order to win the game. After the meeting, the delegation went to visit Greuther Fürth’s youth set-up.

There they met Club President Helmut Hack. After a quick tour they took part in a "Meet and Greet" with the U17s. The day ended with a question and answer session as well as the signing of autographs.
