Jones to join Westerwelle on South America trip

Steffi Jones is to accompany German foreign secretary Guido Westerwelle on a week-long visit to South America, beginning on 6 March 2010. The trip will be split into three stages as the OC President visits the foreign offices of Argentina, Uruguay and Brazil as part of an official delegation.

In addition to discussions with a number of local politicians, businesspeople and media representatives, Jones will also meet with the 2014 FIFA World Cup Organising Committee in Rio de Janeiro, as well as the organisers of the 2016 Olympic Games.

"The invitation from the foreign secretary came as a great honour for me and underlines the importance of sport and the FIFA Women's World Cup 2011™ in particular to the government. The exchanging of ideas and strategies is a vital part of hosting a major sporting event, so I'm very much looking forward to meeting the organisers of the 2014 World Cup and the 2016 Olympic Games," said Jones.

The OC President first travelled to South America in May 2008, taking part in a FIFA seminar and visiting President Michelle Bachelet at the governmental palace as part of a four-day stay in Santiago, Chile.
