Silvia Neid’s future successor Steffi Jones has been named as assistant manager to the Germany Women’s team. The 42-year-old, who will take over Neid’s position as head coach in September 2016, will be one of the assistant coaches along with Ulrike Ballweg until that date.
“It’s a logical succession plan,” said Jones on Monday in Frankfurt am Main. “That way I can gain practical experience, but I also want to instil my own ideas.” She also says that is it “very positive that I can get to know the players straight away in training and in competitive action. I will also be visiting Women’s Bundesliga matches to watch the players.”

Neid, 51, will be stepping down from the role she has held for eleven years after the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro and handing over the reins to Jones. “Steffi is a great addition to the coaching staff so that we can train in even more specific and stronger groups,” said Neid. “This way she can gain experience and learn the strengths and weaknesses of the team,” said Neid. “And then she can carry on in her own way.”
Neid herself will become the head of the new scouting department for women’s and girl’s football within the DFB from September 2016. Steffi Jones, who won the World Cup and European Championship during her playing career, has held the role of director of women’s and girl’s football at the DFB since 2011.
