Jakabfi: "Pure joy"

VfL Wolfsburg lifted yesterday’s DFB Cup thanks to a 2-1 victory over SC Sand in front of 17,000 onlookers in Cologne's Rhein-Energie-Stadium. Striker Zsanett Jakabfi rose to the occasion, bagging both goals for the Wolves. "Personally I rate this title very highly," said the 26-year-old Hungary international during an interview with DFB.de, in which she also looks ahead to Wolfsburg's Champions League final against Olympique Lyon on Thursday in Reggio Emilia.

DFB.de: Miss Jakabfi, was today the best day of your career to date?

Zsanett Jakabfi: One of the best days for sure. I'm extremely happy to have helped my team secure the victory by scoring two goals. It's an extraordinary feeling. But on the day of winning a title you always feel as if this is the biggest success you've ever had. After a few days this feeling starts to subside again.

DFB.de: How are you feeling immediately after the final whistle?

Jakabfi: I just came from the awards ceremony and I don't really know yet what to say. It's simply an indescribable feeling. I can't put into words how I'm feeling right now. I will need a few days to realise everything.

DFB.de: What does this title mean to you personally?

Jakabfi: The DFB Cup is a highlight every season. In the past few days a lot of our fans were specifically talking about the Champions League final on Thursday. But for us that wasn't a topic at all. The DFB Cup has a huge appeal and we wanted to keep the trophy in Wolfsburg at all costs. I'm just happy that we were able to pull it off.

DFB.de: Are you able to celebrate or is preparation for Thursday on the cards already?

Jakabfi: We will obviously enjoy this evening. We earned that much I think. But we will certainly not get carried away tonight. We know that a huge challenge awaits us on Thursday in Olympique Lyon. We need our full strength then.

DFB.de: Wolfsburg have made five final appearances in recent years and won them all…

Jakabfi:Let's wait and see what happens on Thursday. I would be very happy if we can keep the run going.

DFB.de: What is your take on tonight's victory over Sand?

Jakabfi: We had a good start to the game and scored an early goal. Afterwards Sand were very active and produced a balanced encounter. There were several tricky situations for the referee at both ends. I think we controlled the match again in the final thirty minutes and I think it was a deserved win for us. But I certainly have respect for the way Sand played today.

DFB.de: What did you make of the atmosphere in the stadium?

Jakabfi: Once again it was fantastic. Cologne is simply the perfect location to host the Women's DFB Cup final. The supporters once again were outstanding. It was another perfect day for us. Once you've been here once and experienced it all, you always want to return.
