Italy have received a big blow in the build-up to EURO 2016, with midfield motor Claudio Marchisio of Juventus ruled out for the tournament with a cruciate ligament rupture sustained in his team's 4-0 win over Palermo.
Juventus announced on Sunday afternoon that the 30-year-old will be operated on in the coming days. "I'm incredibly disappointed after receiving the news," Marchisio wrote on Instagram: "But I am determined to return as quickly and strongly as possible."
Marchisio has 54 caps for the Italy national team, recently missing out on the 1-1 draw with Spain and the 4-1 loss to Germany with a calf injury.
