Interesting draws for the U19s and U17s

The Germany U19s Women have been drawn into Group 6 with Poland, Switzerland and Iceland for the second qualification phase of the European Championships in 2017. The draw was made on Friday at the UEFA headquarters in Nyon, Switzerland.

Just like England and reigning champions France, coach Maren Meinert’s team were given a bye into the second round and will therefore start their qualification campaign in one of the mini tournaments at the start of next year (the 3rd – 11th of April or the 5th - 13th of June). The six group winners, as well as the best second-place side with the best record against their group winner and the third-place team, will qualify for the tournament in Northern Ireland, which will run from the 8th to the 20th of August 2017.

Qualification groups for the 2018 Euros also drawn

The groups for the U19 European Championships in 2018 in Switzerland were also drawn. Germany are joined in Group 1 by Iceland, Montenegro and Kosovo, who'll get their first chance to qualify for a big tournament at this level.

The first qualification round will take place from the 11th until the 19th of September 2017 in Iceland. All of the group winners and runners up from the four groups will qualify for the second qualification stage, which will take place in early 2018. A total of seven nations, along with hosts Switzerland, will then contest the actual tournament in the summer of 2018.

U17s handed tough group

The U17s Women have also discovered who they’ll face on their path to the 2017 Euros in the Czech Republic (2nd – 14th of May, 2017). The draw revealed that Anouschka Bernhard’s reigning European champions will contest qualification with Poland, England and Italy in Group 3.

The U17s were also able to celebrate winning the Fair Play trophy, which they won at the Euros in Belarus this May. Giulia Gwinn accepted the trophy on behalf of her team in Nyon, where she also took part in the draw.

The DFB delegation were able to watch the first qualification round draw for the 2018 Euros in Lithuania without much stress. This is because Germany have already been seeded for the so-called “elite round” and are now just waiting for the first stage of qualification to end, to then contest the next round of qualification with 24 other nations.
