Ingolstadt seven clear at Christmas

FC Ingolstadt top the second-division table at the winter break. Ralph Hasenhüttl’s side picked up a 2-2 draw away to third-place side Darmstadt 98. A topsy turvy first half in Darmstadt saw the hosts take an early lead through Hanno Behrens. Pascal Groß’s free kick after 20 minutes levelled the scores and shortly before half time the game was turned on its head thanks to Stefan Lex’s goal. The team at the top of the table went into the break in front, but Marcel Heller’s 54th minute equaliser completed the scoring and ensured that the game finished level in front of roughly 14,300 supporters.

Verbeek’s first game as Bochum manager

VfL Bochum’s new manager Gertjan Verbeek was in the stands for the home match against Erzgebirge Aue. The visitors took the lead after 33 minutes through René Klingbeil and looked like they would be able to hold on for a morale boosting three points which would aid their fight against relegation, however, there was late drama for Verbeek’s side. The majority of the supporters were sent into raptures seconds before the end when Tobias Weis fired home an equaliser. Bochum finish the year in 11th with 23 points. Aue are bottom with 14 points after 19 games and are three points from safety.

Hofmann scores for Kaiserslautern

1. FC Kaiserslautern remain in the hunt for a promotion place at the halfway point thanks to a 1-0 win over SV Sandhausen, who finish the year in 14th place. The hosts picked up their seventh home win of the season thanks to Philipp Hofmann’s 73rd minute goal, which was assisted by Matmour. Sandhausen have struggled to pick up points on the road this season and are without a win in three games. Kaiserslautern end the year in fifth place, eight points behind current leaders Ingolstadt.
