Incredible fightback in Stuttgart

VfB Stuttgart found themselves 3-0 down at half-time during matchday 8’s clash with Bayer Leverkusen but a stirring performance after the break saw them pick up a draw. FC Bayern München beat Werder Bremen 6-0 and in the process picked up their fourth win in succession as well as their seventh successive clean sheet. Borussia Mönchengladbach are four points behind Bayern in second, after a 3-0 victory away to Hannover 96.

The returns of Ilkay Gündogan and Marco Reus couldn’t inspire a change of fortunes for Borussia Dortmund, who lost 2-1 to 1. FC Köln meaning they are now without a win in five games. FSV Mainz 05 and VfL Wolfsburg also recorded victories against FC Augsburg (2-1) and SC Freiburg (2-1) respectively.

Leverkusen had a dream first half in Stuttgart. A brace from Heung-Min Son put them 2-0 up in the first 10 minutes (4’, 9’). Their lead was extended shortly before half-time by Karim Bellarabi (41’). VfB got back into the game thanks to goals from Timo Werner (57’) and Florian Klein 67’) and equalised thanks to Martin Harnik with only 13 minutes left to play.

In Munich, Philipp Lahm opened the scoring after 20 minutes. Xabi Alonson (27’), Thomas Müller (43’) and Mario Götze (45’) also scored in the first-half. Lahm (79’) and Götze (86’) both recorded braces in the closing stages of the game.

Zoller grabs the winner against BVB

Köln took the lead thanks to Kevin Vogt’s 40th minute goal, but were pegged back after the break by Ciro Immobile (48’). The home team picked up all three points thanks to Simon Zoller’s goal with 16 minutes left on the clock.

Max Kruse put Gladbach in front after 14 minutes in Hannover. Granit Xhaka’s 49th minute goal doubled the lead, which was sealed by Kruse’s second in injury time.

Caligiuri scores a brace

Wolfsburg won in Freiburg thanks to a brace from Daniel Caligiuri, who was facing his former club. He scored in the eighth and 66th minute. Freiburg grabbed an injury time consolation goal through Sebastian Kerk.

Mainz took the lead in the Coface Arena in the 20th minute thanks to Jonas Hofmann. There lead was doubled three minutes later thanks to Jairo Sampeiro. Tobias Werner scored for Augsburg (78’), but it was too little too late.
