Impressive Neuer leads Bayern to top of the table

FC Bayern München have returned to the top of the table courtesy of a 3-1 home victory over FC Ingolstadt. The record champions have a perfect record with nine points from three games and are now back in first place ahead of 1. FC Köln, who had temporarily replaced them at the top after their 3-0 win over Freiburg on Friday evening. Newly promoted RB Leipzig are now third, after Germany U21 international Timo Werner bagged a brace and was brought down for a penalty during a 4-0 victory at Hamburger SV.

Borussia Dortmund are also back on track after losing 1-0 in Leipzig last weekend. The Champions League side eased past SV Darmstadt with a 6-0 victory and now sit fourth. Eintracht Frankfurt managed to win 2-1 at home against Bayer 04 Leverkusen, while Wolfsburg and Hoffenheim played out a goalless draw, despite plenty of chances for Mario Gomez and Julian Draxler.

Strong Neuer keeps Bayern ahead

Thomas Müller, Philipp Lahm and David Alaba were sidelined for Bayern due to illness and the record champions struggled for long spells in their game against Ingolstadt. The visitors even managed to take the lead after eight minutes through Dario Lezcano but FCB responded quickly and levelled the score from Robert Lewandowski's wonderful chip in the twelfth minute, marking his fifth goal of the campaign already.

Ingolstadt were not willing to back down however and kept testing Manuel Neuer with a number of good chances throughout the game. Xabi Alonso fired Bayern into the lead five minutes after the restart with a wonderful strike into the bottom corner from twenty yards. Rafinha grabbed Bayern's third goal with six minutes left to play, as the hosts earned a deserved, but heavily contended victory.

Dortmund down Darmstadt

In a sold out Signal-Iduna Park, Dortmund started the game with a number of changes in their line-up compared to the side that recorded a 6-0 win in the Champions League on Wednesday. It didn't appear to affect their performance as Gonzalo Castro opened the scoring after seven minutes. Darmstadt were then able to hold Dortmund off until the second half but then Adrian Ramos scored from a rebound just three minutes after half-time. Christian Pulisic made it 3-0 six minutes later and Darmstadt's woes only grew when midfielder Peter Niemeyer was given his marching orders following a second bookable offence.

Dortmund were on fire in the closing stages and cruised to victory with further goals from Castro, Sebastian Rode and substitute Emre Mor.

Gomez and Draxler find their master in Baumann

23,000 spectators in Sinsheim witnessed a similar attacking game as the 4-4 draw in Mainz last weekend, but goals amazingly with no goals. Mario Gomez looked in great form in his second Bundesliga game after his return from Turkey's Süper Lig, however, the Germany international was couldn’t beat TSG keeper Oliver Baumann. The same applied to fellow DFB Team member Julian Draxler, as TSG managed to fend of Wolfsburg and record a 0-0 draw.

The first half between Hamburger SV and RB Leipzig remained goalless but the newly promoted side shifted through the gears in the second half and were led by the brilliant Timo Werner. First, the Germany U21 international earned a penalty against Rene Adler, which was converted by Emil Forsberg before grabbing his first goal from a rebound. He then doubled his tally a few minutes later. Olympic hero Davie Selke supplied the finishing touch as the newly promoted side earns a 4-0 win at Hamburger SV.

Chicharito misses from the spot

Alex Meier fired Frankfurt into the lead against Leverkusen shortly after the restart. Chicharito was able to respond for the visitors seven minutes later. However, Frankfurt were to be rewarded for their attacking game plan as Marco Fabian finished wonderfully from substitute Ante Rebic’s pass in the 79th minute. Leverkusen pushed for the equaliser and Julian Brandt was brought down in the area, but Chicharito struck the post from the spot, allowing Frankfurt to take home vital three points.

Hazard and Raffael down Werder

There were goals galore in front of 52,000 spectators at Borussia-Park as Borussia Mönchengladbach ran out 4-1 winners against Werder Bremen. Both Thorgan Hazard and Raffael grabbed braces in the first half, meaning that Serge Gnabry’s brilliant first goal for Werder was only a consolation. It was third time lucky for Thorgan Hazard in the early stages as he was denied first by Diagne in the eighth minute and then Drobny before finally firing home for the opener in the eleventh minute. He then doubled his tally in the 17th minute as Borussia kept finding holes in the Werder defence. Raffael got his first of the game from the penalty spot to make it 3-0 after Jaroslav Drobny had brought down Borussia captain Lars Stindl in the area.

It wasn’t until the 41st minute that Gladbach added to their lead. A run down the right wing from Stindl lead to a cross for Raffael that he fired into the back of the visitors’ goal on the turn to make it 4-0. The commanding lead was too much for Werder to overturn despite the best efforts of Gnabry whose first Werder goal, a brilliantly hit second-half volley from 18 yards, wasn’t enough to bring about a full comeback from the Green-Whites.
