Ilkay Gündogan extends Dortmund contract until 2017

Germany international Ilkay Gündogan will stay at Bundesliga club Borussia Dortmund. The 24-year-old midfielder has extended his current contract for one further year until 2017.

"The first few days of pre-season training are over, and it’s been great fun to work with the coaches and other players. I’m happy that we’ve finally cleared things up and that I’ll be able to keep playing for Dortmund next season," said Gündogan. He added that he is now totally focused on preparing for the new season, and that he wants to hit the ground running with his teammates in August.

"We’re very happy that Ilkay will carry on playing for us. I’m convinced that he can make a great contribution to the side and help BVB achieve our goals for the season," said sporting director Michael Zorc.

Gündogan arrived at Dortmund in 2011 from FC Nürnberg. He has made 80 Bundesliga appearances for BVB, scoring nine goals. He was also a member of the double-winning side in 2012.
