Hrubesch: "Russia will be highly motivated"

While most Germans are enjoying Easter holidays, Germany’s U21s are working diligently. Following their 4-1 victory over minnows Faroe Islands, Horst Hrubesch’s side now want to secure their next three points in Russia as they look to take a big step towards qualifying for next year’s European Championship. "We have a clear goal," said Hrubesch prior to Tuesday’s game in Rostov-on-Don.

The intensity in training was raised on Easter Sunday in order to achieve this goal. "We gave the players the afternoon off on Saturday, giving them time to rest following the analysis of our victory over the Faroe Islands," explained Hrubesch. "Now we intend to up our concentration levels and focus on the game in Russia more and more each day." Sunday’s schedule has the team complete two fitness sessions, as well as individual briefings and video analysis. "We scouted Russia in their 2-2 draw with Azerbaijan on Thursday," revealed Hrubesch. "They’ve struggled so far during this qualifying period and recently replaced their coach. They will be highly motivated against us but we will be prepared for that."

Spectators for the training session in Frankfurt’s Commerzbank-Arena are welcome. The team departs for Rostov on Monday, with kit manager Michael Schmidt likely packing extra winter jackets, as temperatures are expected to drop to below freezing in the evenings.
